BEDROOM BATTLE

by Hidayat Adams

Night. Darkened room. Me in bed,

Eyes heavy. Soft pillow for my head,

About to drown in slumber… a sudden whine!

She announces her presence, crosses a line!

I snap on the lights, see her twirl off lazily.

Hurl my slipper in anger – irate, oh so mightily!

Missed! I doze off, not caring what she does.

A soft touch, an insistent, annoying buzz –

Lights click on; I spy the culprit fly!

Pesticide spray I wildly, but he’s too high.

Sleep eludes me till the crack of dawn:

Mosquito and fly have down me worn.
